A child’s tears

child-2063711_1920

Yes!

They freely roll

Down like river Mississippi

With a hint of blood

.

Effortlessly

They roll down little cheeks

Like summer thunder

Hitting dry ground

.

Child,

Little child cries

Little child wails

From a hurting belly

For bread crumbs

.

No

There’s no other reason

But hunger!

Hunger

That hurts little one

Hunger

That causes little one

To beg

Hunger

That has little one

Trying to survive

.

Little one tries

Little one cries

In our very presence.

    1. Thank you my dearest Shivangi. My inspiration for this piece was from Uganda. Watching a little kid on the street beg so they can eat. As a mother, it breaks my heart to pieces. That simple bare necessity should at least be available for little ones.
