Pride:-Deep pleasure in our own selves(achievements, who we are, have become or more so comparing ourselves to those around us in a sense that makes us feel much more or better than they are)
Proverbs 11:12 “Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent” and we can also continue to read vs 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 for an even deeper understanding of this sin and its consequences.
Pride can be a difficult subject to talk about because we are all victims of it. We have been proud at some point or have been crushed by some one ‘s pride. We will go as far as comparing our sinful nature in terms of weighing our sin against that of our neighbors’…..” My sin is not as bad as theirs” so we say and we forget that we have all sinned but only by His Grace are able to be in God’s presence.
Achievements are also a big part in which our pride tends to show it’s thorns. At times we feel like we are untouchable because of where we are in our careers, raised better kids, have better this or that( which in fact is like the wind)
In other words despising others is a very ugly tentacle of pride that we ought to be aware of on a daily basis and continue to seek God’s Grace to love
Apologies. Have you ever felt too proud to apologize or met some one that did?. I have with both. That usually happens with my sweet hubby. I some times feel too proud to ask for his forgiveness until i can’t stand how it makes me feel, more so even my own kids…..i often catch myself not wanting to apologize to my little people just because i know i can get away with it. Even if i did, it is still wrong and we all ought to let go of our pride when we are in the wrong. Admit our mistakes and seek forgiveness.
